Current Travel Plans
Marianne
and I are going to drive to San Francisco next week, via Phoenix so I can drop
stuff off at storage and switch to a backpack for European traveling. I plan on
being in the Bay Area for a week or so then going to Boston around April 8th.
On April 25, I will fly or train (or something) down to Fort Lauderdale to catch
the Golden
Princess to Barcelona.
From there, I have no plans
whatsoever. I will probably stay in hostels and Bed and
Breakfasts as I wind my way through the British Isles (England, Ireland,
Scotland & Wales) and then either walk east on the alleged walking trails
though central Europe or take trains. I want to try to visit the small
town where my great grandfather on my father's side lived in eastern
Slovakia and maybe also some of the towns where my great great grandfather and
his children lived on my mother's side in Romania.
Then, the current plan is to spend a
few months living in an apartment in Kherson
or Kharkov, Ukraine, learning Russian and saving money. Then, I'll either take
a plane or ship back to the USA or .. do something else. I kind of intend to
stay away from Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, Scandinavia & Germany because
I have a feeling they're all too expensive. But as you can see, these are all
just preliminary plans. If I meet some nice girl along the way, who knows; I
could drop everything and fallow her.
When I get to Phoenix next week, I
will start packing. As I do, I will try to decide at that time whether to bring
the Powerbook with me to Europe or not based on the extra weight. We'll
see.
